The International Day of University Sport festival was held on Saturday, September 16 in Krasnoyarsk on the Tatyshev Island.

Within the framework of the event intense festival programme was held in the Winter Universiade 2019 Pavilion. Thus, a show of drummers "Zanozzza", sports quizzes, fun runs and master classes in football freestyle were organised for the guests. Pavilion visitors could make photos with U-Laika, the mascot of the Games.  

In addition, the festival hosted competitions among university students in table tennis, volleyball, basketball, chess and mini-football. About 40 teams from 9 universities competed in sports disciplines: SFU, SibSAU, KSPU named after V.P. Astafyev, Krasnoyarsk State Medical University named after Prof. V.F.Voino-Yasenetsky and others. The winners were awarded special cups with the Winter Universiade 2019 Marks. 

One of the main events of the holiday was the solemn ceremony of dedication to the Winter Universiade 2019 Ambassadors of Kirill Veselov, the winner of the 22nd World Ski Orienteering Championships in Krasnoyarsk. The dedication ceremony was opened by Maxim Urazov, the Director General of the Executive Directorate of the 29th Winter Universiade 2019 in Krasnoyarsk.

"Today we celebrate a great holiday of sport and youth! Such events allow to involve in sports as many students as possible, to promote a healthy lifestyle among people of all ages. It is especially important for Krasnoyarsk, which is preparing to host the Games in 2019, - said Maxim Urazov. — Our priority task is to hold more events, where anyone can join the mass sports action".

Kirill Veselov noted that it is a great honor for him to become the Winter Universiade 2019 Ambassador: "I am grateful for the opportunity to become a member of the Winter Universiade 2019 team! It is especially pleasant that ski orienteering, to which I gave many years of my life, is included in the Winter Universiade 2019 sports programme. I am convinced that we will deliver the Games at the highest level, show the Siberian hospitality and real winter for all the guests".

"Cross of the Nation" also was held on this day, within the framework of which the 32nd traditional track-and-field race “Know yourself" took place, including 10 km race and 2019 meters mass race devoted to the Winter Universiade 2019. Over 1000 people took part in the 2019 meters race.

It should be recalled that in 2016 the International Day of University Sport was officially recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) along with the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The primary objective of the holiday is to enhance the role of sport, promote a healthy lifestyle and proper physical education among young people.
