Krasnoyarsk Walking Day participants to cover the symbolic 2019 meters honouring Winter Universiade Krasnoyarsk 2019

Krasnoyarsk is getting ready for the All-Russian Walking Day, which is to take place on October 3 on the Tatyshev Island. The distance to be covered by participants in the region's capital has already been settled. All Krasnoyarsk residents and city guests will be offered to cover 2019 meters, which stand for the year symbolizing the holding of the Winter Universiade Krasnoyarsk.

The All-Russian Walking Day will be celebrated in our country for the first time. 11 cities representing each of the Russian time zones, including Krasnoyarsk, will pass the baton in relay moving westwards from the far East during the day. The event will begin at 11.00 a.m. local time in each participant city and will last for 1 hour. Breaking the tape in their city, the participants will pass the baton to the next time zone in a TV link-up.

Therefore, the Walking day will last for 11 hours from the first to the latest participant. The number of steps walked by each finishing participant will be counted and added to the total amount - the length of the distance. It is expected that joint effort will result in 500,000,000 steps covered. As a reminder, since 1991, the millions of people from all over the world go to the streets on the first weekend of October celebrating the World Walking Day.

Our country joined this global event in 2014. The start was announced on the first day of the 5th International Sports Forum Russia – Sports Power in Cheboksary. Then the flash mob was supported by the Olympic Sochi, Krasnoyarsk, Belgorod, Ulyanovsk, and Petrpavlovsk-Kamchatsky. This year it was decided to organize the All-Russian Walking Day. Residents of many cities of our country, including those not included into 'relay', will toe the starting line on the same day as the walking fans from other 150 countries to demonstrate the advantages and availability of active and healthy life style.
