On February 21, 2024, the Library of the Russian House in Ulaanbaatar held an online meeting for primary school students of the Ulaanbaatar Mongolian-Russian school with children's writer Elena Shumkina, the author of fairy tales and stories awarded the title of the Krasnoyarsk Regional Children's Book of the Year 2018.

The writer told the children about her work using the example of characters and books she wrote, and the Mongolian school students listened to some of the magical adventures described in Shumkina's stories.

In a conversation with the writer, first-graders learned a lot of new information about the main tourist attractions of the Siberian city: they looked at the Chapel of Paraskeva Pyatnitsa and the local Opera and Ballet Theatre, discovered the Krasnoyarsk Stolby Nature Reserve, and got to know famous Krasnoyarsk painter Andrei Pozdeev.

The lecture of a "real Russian writer" turned out to be so emotionally inspiring that the children themselves decided to hold a drawing competition in illustrations for stories from Elena Shumkina's books.

Valeria Kilpyakova, acting Head of the Rossotrudnichestvo representative office in Mongolia:

— The children who visited the Russian House today and met with Elena Shumkina are special. The've only just began studying this academic year, so as to abide by the Russian educational standards. In 2023, this then secondary school was transformed by the Government of Mongolia into a joint Mongolian-Russian school, where children are to be taught by experienced teachers participating in the international humanitarian project "Russian Teacher Abroad". These kids have only been learning Russian for six months, and it is very important for them to have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the Russian language environment. It is also very important to introduce them to modern Russian cultural figures, for example writers and poets, to show them real prospects of studying the language, to introduce them to the cities of Russia and this whole new world full of discoveries. This event, I believe, became another page in the history of sister city relations between the cities of Krasnoyarsk and Ulaanbaatar.

The online meeting was organised with the support of the Krasnoyarsk City Administration and personally the Head of the International Affairs Division of the Krasnoyarsk City Administration Inna Dozortseva.
