In the United Arab Emirates (Dubai), representatives of the Russian Rugby Federation presented Krasnoyarsk as the city to host the Asia Rugby Sevens Series in the summer of 2022.

The meeting was attended by delegations from 35 Asian countries, including the United Arab Emirates, China, Japan, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan. Delegates from Russia presented Krasnoyarsk as the centre of Russian rugby, mentioning that there are two rugby teams coexisting in the city, Yenisei-STM and Krasny Yar. The representatives of the federations of Asian countries were told about the high level of sports infrastructure in Krasnoyarsk. As a result, everyone unanimously supported the idea of organising the series in our city.

The Asia Rugby Sevens Series matches will be held on August 13-14, 2022 at the Central Stadium of Krasnoyarsk. 12 teams will take part in the tournament, two of which will represent Russia (the national team of the Krasnoyarsk Region with the best players from Yenisei-STM and Krasny Yar, as well as the future champion of Russia).

Back in November, the President of the Rugby Federation of the Asian continent Kais Al-Dhalai visited the capital of the Region to assess the preparation for the historic event. Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Region Alexander Uss met with the delegation. The head of the Region stressed that Krasnoyarsk is ready to organize and hold the event at the highest level. Later, the President of the Asian Rugby Federation called Krasnoyarsk an ideal city for such a tournament. Important to note is the fact that spectators and fans will be able not only to see spectacular competitions of the best rugby-7 clubs in Asia, but also to become participants in a large street festival with many interactive venues
