A brand-new monumental sculpture composition was unveiled in front of the Siberian State Academy of Arts. The art object was created by the Academy’s 2020 alumni.

This composition is the diploma work of Ilya Tsarinny, with assistance from Alexander Tkachuk, Professor of the Sculpture Department, and Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts.

The new sculptures are made of concrete and decorated with a bright mosaic pattern made from Soviet smalt – coloured opaque cobalt glass. According to the creator, initially there was no experience or tools to realise this kind of project, not enough knowledge, so he had to study and discover a lot of new things. All in all, the art- object took a year to finish.

Each sculpture is the embodiment of Russian traditions: Winter personifies an adult stately woman of the Northern province; Spring is a young marriageable girl with two braids from the Kostroma province; Summer is a girl who recently got married and wears a corresponding kokoshnik (the costume design was taken from the history of the Ryazan province); Autumn is a married woman in a festive costume.
