​In an interview with Newslab Lidia Dzyobak, the choreographer of the Krasnoyarsk Dance Company of Siberia named after M. Godenko, told about the preparation for the Winter Universiade Krasnoyarsk 2019.

It is difficult to imagine the cultural programme of the Universiade in Krasnoyarsk without the world-famous Krasnoyarsk Dance Company of Siberia named after M. Godenko. The team took part in the Opening and Closing ceremonies of the Winter Universiade 2019 and gave a solo concert, which included the key performances of Mikhail Godenko and the work of modern ballet choreographers. Through their performance the dancers showed the beauty of the Siberian nature and the richness of the soul of the people who live here.

'For the team, the Winter Universiade 2019 was a special event and a new experience. Firstly, it was an unforgettable work with Ilia Averbukh, who was the director of ceremonies, and his team of choreographers. Secondly, the new stage equipped up to the state of the art. For us, for creative people, all this was really exciting, and we, like everyone else, were blown away at how magical the event turned out. For our part, we tried to fulfill all the tasks assigned to us and rehearsed from morning to evening in the Platinum Arena. In my opinion, everything worked out, because, after the Opening Ceremony, the whole city was proud that the Winter Universiade 2019 was held in Krasnoyarsk.

Working on our solo concert, first of all, we thought through the programme to make it interesting and versatile. We included both the performances from the Mikhail Godenko gold fund and the new productions. We tried to show the Siberian culture and rich national costumes. We did not speak with the guests, but we are sure they enjoyed our performance. Just imagine how 50 people in folk costumes look like on the stage. There are strength and power in this one image! It doesn't matter how many times spectators saw it, they will always like such performances. Every time through the music and the energy coming from the dancers, something new is captured which is why the production lives for years. Many of our foreign guests at the Winter Universiade 2019 saw this for the first time, and I think they were even more delighted.

This year is special for us. May 1 is the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Mikhail Godenko. And if at the Winter Universiade 2019 we had to make a colorful show, now we are facing another goal. The veterans, all generations of members of the company will come (now the fourth generation took over). We are preparing a special programme with dances that were performed in different years, and waiting for the guests with trepidation and excitement. There will be two concerts to celebrate the date. One of them will only include the productions of authorship of Godenko. The second one will consist of new performances of the company and the performances of other teams that will come to congratulate us. The first concert will take place on April 30. Krasnoyarsk citizens and guests of our city are welcome to join us!'
