The first "medal" day of the Summer Universiade 2017 was held. Russian athletes spent it successfully, winning 7 medals, one of them being gold. Arina Opyonysheva, representing the Krasnoyarsk Territory, won a silver medal in swimming in the 4x100 meter crawl relay. Andrei Arbuzov won the bronze medal in the same discipline.

There were competitions among men in synchronized diving from a ten-meter tower in the pool for diving, located at the University of Taipei. Roman Izmailov and Nikita Shleicher won the first medal of the Games, and the gold one at once, for the Russian team. The second and third places were still with the representatives of the DPRK and South Korea.

The 4×10 meter crawl relay became successful for the Russian teams. The women’s team lost to the Canadians, so Maria Kameneva, Polina Lapshina, Anastasia Guzhenkova and Arina Opyonysheva got the silver. The United States got the third place. Men’s team consisting of Michael Vekovischev, Andrey Arbuzov, Sergei Fesikov and Nikita Korolev became the third in the same relay. The first two places were taken by the USA and Italy.

The first medals found their owners in the team competition in the artistic gymnastics. The Russians consisting of Vladislav Polyashov, Alexey Rostov, Daniil Kazatchkov, Ilya Kibartas and Kirill Prokopiev were able to win bronze medals. The Japanese won the first place, and the Ukrainian team got the second one.

Judoists impressed the Russian fans. There are 3 bronze medals in the achievement of our team. Aleksandra Babintseva won the third place among women in weight up to 78 kg, Valerie Ferrari from Italy won the gold medal, and the silver one went to Korean Zhin-Yun Li. Niyaz Bilalov (up to 100 kg) and Anton Brachev (over 100 kg) also received bronze.

According to the total number of medals, Russians hold the first line (7 medals), outscored the US national teams (6 medals) and South Korea (6 medals). The Russian team is on the fifth place in the unofficial team rating according to the results of the first day. The first place is taken by the DPRK team, which won three gold and two silver. The second position remained for the Japanese, while the third one is taken by the South Korean athletes.
