The Yarygin Wrestling Tournament has been added to the United World Wrestling (UWW) calendar for 2027 and renamed to a "Memorial Competition." This historic development took place during a meeting of the UWW Bureau in Kazakhstan.

The 38th Ivan Yarygin Memorial International Freestyle and Women's Wrestling Competition will take place in Krasnoyarsk from January 20 to 25. The event returns to the international calendar after a five-year hiatus. The tournament will also feature a mixed-format dual meet between the national teams of Russia and the United States.

Natalia Yarygina, UWW Vice President and First Deputy President of the Russian Wrestling Federation, was excited to share the news:

— First and foremost, I would like to thank UWW President Nenad Lalović—who has been re-elected for a new term—as well as all my colleagues and friends on the UWW Bureau for this decision. For us, this is a crucial step toward the further development of the competition and the entire Krasnoyarsk school of wrestling—and, of course, it serves as a tribute to the memory of my husband, Ivan Yarygin!

The Yarygin Competition traditionally kicks off the new season in the world of wrestling. For the Russian national team, this competition serves as a key qualifying stage for the European Championships.
