The production is based on the novel "Bygone Days" (Uzbek: Oʻtkan kunlar) by Abdulla Qodiriy. The libretto for the opera was written by the People's Poet of Uzbekistan, Usmon Azim, while the music was composed by Mirhalil Mahmudov—a composer known for his classical vocal and instrumental works, as well as scores for over 50 films. The production was directed by Irkin Gabitov, an Honored Worker of Arts of Russia who collaborates with theatres across Russia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. The premiere of "Kumush" took place in 2017.
Alibek Kabdurakhmanov, director of the Bolshoi Theatre of Uzbekistan, spoke about the production at the press conference for the event:
— Key priority for us here is the presentation of our national spirit; for instance, the opera "Kumush" is performed in its original language (with Russian subtitles), which is precisely where its charm lies. The Uzbek language is exceptionally beautiful and melodic, allowing you, the audience, to fully grasp the depth and passion of what is unfolding on stage.

The introduction to productions from the Bolshoi Theatre of Uzbekistan will continue with performances of Georges Bizet's opera "Carmen" on the stage of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre.
The stage director for the performance is Konstantin Kamynin, a graduate of the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts GITIS and winner of the 3rd prize at the 2024 "NANO-OPERA" International Competition for Opera Directors. The musical director is conductor Vyacheslav Chernukho-Volich. The production premiered in July 2026, marking the conclusion of the 96th season at the State Academic Bolshoi Theatre of Uzbekistan named after Alisher Navoi.
The performances are taking place as part of the All-Russian Touring and Concert Plan of the Russian Ministry of Culture, under the "Big Tours" programme.
