Two major national holidays Sabantuy and Zhailoo were celebrated on Tatyshev Island over the weekend. Around 8,500 residents attended creative workshops, sampled national dishes, and participated in competitions.

On Saturday, Sabantuy featured national belt wrestling, "Koresh," tug-of-war, arm wrestling, and weight lifting.

Art enthusiasts participated in master classes, learning how to create a national Tatar women's costume or a tyubeteyka cap. The most creative headpieces were decorated with CDs, coffee beans, various fabrics, and minerals.

At the gastronomic venues, city residents sampled traditional dishes of the Turkic peoples: dried goose, peremyachi, and sausage made according to ancient recipes.

At the "Sunny Chak-Chak" exhibition and competition, the most original dessert was one decorated with ice cream cones, meringue, and pirate figurines. A 50-cm-tall chak-chak won the record for the highest.

— People get together, enjoy the day, and make acquaintances, regardless of their ethnicity. This is a multifaceted exchange—of culture, traditions, symbols, cuisines, knowledge, and emotions. This creates a space for dialogue and mutual understanding,

– said Gayaz Fatkullin, Chairman of the Spiritual Directorate of the Muslims of the Krasnoyarsk Region and Imam-Khatib of the Krasnoyarsk Congregational Mosque. 

A creative programme kept everyone entertained regardless of activity involvement. Ensembles from the Republic of Tatarstan, amateur groups, and winners of national and international music awards performed on the main stage.

On Sunday, residents immersed themselves in the atmosphere of nomadic culture at the Jailoo festival. The location overnight transformed into an authentic zone with traditional household items and themed photo locations. An exhibition and fair of local crafts was also open.

Children played tug-of-war in the folk game "Arkan Tartysh," tried their hand at the traditional belt wrestling "Kurosh," and competed in kettlebell lifting. A participant set a record by lifting a weight 700 times in a row.

Special attention was paid to the food: guests were introduced to traditional cuisine and drinks and also attended a gastronomic presentation that showcased the culinary diversity of the peoples of the Krasnoyarsk Region.

— Jailoo isn't just an open-air gathering. Our children were born and raised in Siberia, but we want them to know the language of their ancestors and remember where their roots come from. When we set up a yurt, when we felt, prepare traditional atala, we pass on a little piece of Kyrgyzstan to the children as well as introduce everyone who wants it. The more such celebrations there are, the stronger the multinational and cultural bonds between peoples, 

- said Nazgul Batayeva, the organiser of the celebration.

The celebrations were held as part of the municipal programme "Promoting the Development of Civil Society in Krasnoyarsk." Its goal is to strengthen interethnic harmony among residents and introduce them to the cultures of different peoples.​​
