Aptly titled «Calligraphy – the beauty and wisdom of the character», this event put together approximately 300 works by more than 150 Russian, Chinese, Mongolian calligraphy masters.

The exhibition aims to demonstrate how this ancient craft, developed over millennia, is paradoxically experiencing a curious revival and continues to captivate connoisseurs of beauty with its virtuosity and beauty, according to the Regional Branch of the Russian Academy of Arts.

Visitors will see papers and scrolls executed in a wide variety of languages, techniques, styles, and handwritings. Exhibitions of this kind are extremely rare.

The calligraphers masterfully balance the fine line between easy recognition and careful abstraction in the works on display. Some compositions allow the text to be read, while others deliberately render it nigh illegible, turning the character into a pure "building block" of visual space, where form is crucial and the visual matters more than the content itself, the curators shared.
