10.07.2025The prestigious international Global Energy award ceremony took place in Krasnoyarsk. The event was held by the Global Energy Association's president Sergey Brilev, the Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Region Mikhail Kotyukov and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Chung Rae-kwon.

This year, the award was given to three scientists from Russia, the USA and China. The ceremony took place in the RusHydro office and became the first major international event of the company after its big move from Moscow to Krasnoyarsk. The relocation was carried out in accordance with the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The ceremony was attended by leading energy experts, government officials, the scientific community and foreign journalists. The list of nominees included 15 researchers from eight countries: Australia, the UK, Italy, China, Russia, the USA, Chile and Switzerland.
The Global Energy Award was established in 2003. Since then, 53 scientists from 16 countries have become its laureates. It is considered to be of the most prestigious awards in the energy sector, awarded for breakthrough scientific achievements and innovations that contribute to the sustainable development of the industry and reduce its impact on the environment. The selection of winners is carried out by an international committee, which includes high profile experts from different countries. In 2025, the Award received 90 applications from 44 countries, covering all six continents, according to Sergey Brilev:
— Our country maintains notable energy balance. And the Krasnoyarsk Region is an ideal venue for the Global Energy Award, as it implements energy solutions that the rest of the world can only dream of. We have nominations, such as Traditional Energy and Non-Traditional Energy, and this land here can combine practice and science. Scientists are able to find a common professional language, regardless of the geopolitical situation. It is no coincidence that representatives of Europe and North America returned to the nominee lsit this year, and the geography of applications has expanded, including scientists from the countries of the Global South.
During the Association's work in the Region, the guests visited the main attractions, the Krasnoyarsk hydroelectric power station, industrial enterprises, met with energy specialists and participants of the "We are professionals" industry summer camp.
Mikhail Kotyukov, Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Region:
— Our Krasnoyarsk Region is an industrially developed one, and the energy sector is fundamentally important for us. Much attention is paid to the development of the industry: energy is equally important for heavy industry, housing construction and processing of the raw materials that we have today. In addition, the topic of energy development is studied in detail in our universities and schools, so it is important to attract young people to the field who are ready to devote themselves to this business professionally. The Krasnoyarsk Region applied to host the ceremony of announcing the laureates, many interesting ideas and projects were presented by the nominees of the Global Energy Award - and this is a great educational work. I can also see some interest of the international jury in studying the land, which is very much welcome.
