12.03.2019In the fierce battle against Canada, Russia won the Winter Universiade 2019 gold medals in women's Ice Hockey tournament.

The Russian and Canadian hockey players made their fans bite their nails, as the final between these two teams turned out a real battle for the gold. The Russians had an advantage in the first period, shooting more pucks than the opponents with none of them making it into the goaltender's net. However, there was a clear feeling that this pressure will be only building up and will ultimately end up in scored goals.

But as the game progressed, the Canadians began to respond with an increasing number of counterattacks, bringing more and more problems to Nadezhda Morozova, Russia's goaltender. Indeed, Nadezhda became a central figure and the main hero of the match, having saved all the shots in four one-on-one situations against Canadian forwards. Neither of the teams scored in two and a half periods, but the game itself was very dynamic and not even close to boring. The emotions were reaching boiling point, the ice was starting to melt. In minute 49 the first goal of the final was scored on a power play by Liana Ganeeva from the Russian team.

The game's tension escalated to the limit, with more and more clashes on both ends of the ice, but the score itself did not change a bit. The Canadians substituted their goaltender by the sixth player, trying to put the game in the overtime. It did not help. To cap it off, the Russians managed to score a goal into the open net, winning the game with a score of 2:0 (0:0, 0:0, 2:0). The Russian national team is the winner of the Winter Universiade 2019 women's Ice Hockey tournament. It is the third consecutive victory for the Russian team.
Nadezhda Morozova, the goaltender of the Russian national team, shared her impressions after the dramatic final. 'The match was really tough, the Canadians were pressing us in the second period. It was hard, but we managed to hold them back thanks to the team. We did complete the task of our coach in the end, and we did it! We won, cheers to everyone! I am grateful to all the fans for coming and supporting us so well! This really helps!'
In the final press conference, Alexey Chistiakov, Coach of the Russian national team, highly commended the results of the team at the Winter Universiade 2019. 'We had taken the task for the Games very seriously. The level of these competitions is quite high. This victory is really important for our national team as it makes our girls more confident. This is the first competition for many players and a certain springboard for moving forward.'
