 | The All-Russian Literary Competition with international participation "The Artic Star - Umka" is initiated by the Krasnoyarsk Park of Flora and Fauna «Roev Ruchey» with organizational support from the Krasnoyarsk City Administration 5 to 18 year old children can participate in the Competition by subitting works in one out of five nominations: short story, fairy tale, poem, essay, and feature article. Over the years, "The Artic Star - Umka" has featured not only school students from various regions of the Russian Federation, but also their peers from foreign countries, such as the People's Republic of China, the Republic of Belarus, Mongolia, and others. |
MAIN PURPOSE:
the Competition aims to bring attention to the animals of the Northern Hemisphere and specifically the symbol of Arctic - the polar bear - as threatened species.
Another goal of the Competition is strengthening international relations between Russia and other countries based on mutual cooperation, understanding, friendship and collaborative work to preserve the nature of planet Earth.
OBJECTIVES:
- developing ability to express personal opinion about nature- and culture-related values through creative writing in youth;
- raising literacy levels and linguistic performance;
- raising environmental awareness and developing a pro-active stance on rare and endangered animal species;
- drawing attention to the necessity and importance of saving the polar bear as an indicator of the stability of Arctic ecosystems and a unique representative of the Arctic animal world;
for foreign participants: improving writing skills in Russian, increasing interest in learning Russian.
