Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Region Mikhail Kotyukov and His Excellency Mr. Eduardo Villegas Mejía, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mexico to the Russian Federation discussed cooperation between our region and Mexico. The Ambassador and his family arrived in Krasnoyarsk to participate in the International Forum of Indigenous Peoples.

At the meeting, Mikhail Kotyukov highlighted several areas for partnership. These include the economy, tourism, education, culture, and sports sectors:

— Tomorrow, the International Forum of Indigenous Peoples starts in Krasnoyarsk. In my opinion, it's important to look into each other's perspectives on preserving the unique heritage of indigenous peoples, their languages, their traditions. The Krasnoyarsk Region is a multinational region located in the very centre of our country. We are considered one of the most industrialized regions in Russia, boasting a strong resource and intellectual potential. We are interested in expanding business cooperation and are ready to strengthen ties with Mexico in all areas.

As part of its tourist sector development programme, the Krasnoyarsk Region offers gastronomic tours, Yenisey River cruises, gorgeous national parks and cultural landmarks. In education, the region is open to collaboration with the larger scientific community and is ready to assist in training specialists in both the trades and humanities. More than 2,600 international students from 69 countries, including Mexico, studied at the region's universities this academic year. The Krasnoyarsk Region routinely welcomes foreign artists and sports teams to participate in events held in Siberia.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary noted that Mexico welcomes all initiatives by the Krasnoyarsk Region to strengthen and expand its mutually wholesome partnership:

— I am grateful for this invitiation to take part in such a significant event. It's truly a delight to be visiting the region for the first time. The Krasnoyarsk Region and Mexico have extensive experience preserving the history, traditions, and culture of their ethnic groups—we have much to share. We are also open to working together, and my visit signifies that the time has come for our peoples to get to know each other better.
