The opening ceremony for the International Northern Multidiscipline Competition Festival "World Unity Cup" took place in Krasnoyarsk at the National Centre "RUSSIA." 

Every visiting team, which included more than 150 athletes from Russia, Belarus, India, Cameroon, and the Congo, participated in the event. The Russian team is represented by 12 regions, including the Krasnoyarsk Region.

Deputy Governor Valery Semyonov delivered a welcoming speech on behalf of Governor Kotyukov:

— This is an important event for the entire country. This festival is something of a tribute to our ancestors. Northern multidiscipline competition is a high-spirited sport that came to us from hunters and reindeer herders. It is what our ancestors did to survive in the harsh northern conditions. I would like to welcome the international participants. You have traveled tens of thousands of kilometers to demonstrate your skills in Krasnoyarsk and to join us here at the Festival during the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia. I wish you all victory.

The opening ceremony programme also featured a film screening about Northern multidiscipline competitions, as well as vocal and dance performances introducing the culture of the peoples of Russia.

The Festival will last until August 16th and will include the All-Russian competition "Unity Cup of the Peoples of Russia," the World Championship, the Women's and Men's and Junior Women's and Men's World Championships. Athletes will face several challenges: the national triple jump, pole running, sled jumping, tynzyan throwing, long-distance axe throwing, and the axe biathlon and axe triathlon events. The competitions will be held at the Arena Sever multifunctional sports complex and Tatyshev Island.
