The first online training seminar on the Zoom platform was held on March 29, 2021, and covered the topic of localising the Sustainable Development Goals. The programme of the seminar was based on training modules developed by the UCLG World Organization, the United Nations Development Programme and UN-Habitat.

The seminar was aimed at raising awareness about global agendas and the Sustainable Development Goals among local authorities. The event was attended by representatives of the cities of Krasnoyarsk, Yekaterinburg, Volgograd, Perm, Rostov-on-Don, Samara, Stavropol, Ulyanovsk, Ufa, Yakutsk and Bolgar.

Rasikh Sagitov, Secretary General of the Eurasian Branch of UCLG, officially opened the event, emphasising the importance and role of local and regional authorities in achieving the SDGs locally, as well as solving global problems.

«Local authorities make a significant contribution to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in their daily activities. According to UCLG estimates, 65% of the SDGs cannot be implemented without the participation of local authorities.»

«The 2030 Agenda is a blueprint for people, planet and prosperity. It highlights that the elimination of poverty in all its forms and manifestations is the most important global task and one of the most necessary conditions for sustainable development,» — said the coordinator of UCLG-Eurasia projects Tansylu Nurieva. During the presentation, the main principles of the SDGs were also announced. All of the goals are universal, have integrative nature, and take into account the interests of people.

According to an online survey conducted among the participants of the seminar, most of them are familiar with the Sustainable Development Goals. Participants were able to select the SDGs with the highest priority for their cities. The highest percentage was scored by SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.

Development Director of UCLG-Eurasia Saida Zagidullina presented projects of cities in the Eurasian region purposed to localise the Sustainable Development Goals. Among them are: the annual Strategic Development Forum 'Cities of Russia 2030', which is held in Yekaterinburg; International Forum of Public Diplomacy 'Dialogue on the Volga: Peace and Mutual Understanding in the XXI Century', organised by the city of Volgograd; the Rostov-on-Don project 'New Rostov', aimed at the development of small and medium businesses in the city; the initiative of the city Perm 'Golden Reserve' and many others.
