The 22nd World Ski Orienteering Championships Finished in Krasnoyarsk

It is worth reminding that the World Championships 2017 held within March 05-13 on the territory of the Biathlon Academy resulted in revealing the leader of the medal count, the National Team of Sweden (five gold and two silver medals); the Russian team took the second place with three gold, six silver, and two bronze medals; Bulgarians had one gold medal; the Finnish athletes won one silver and four bronze medals; the Norwegian team won two bronze medals; and a bronze of the Czeck Republic team.

During the ceremony, the athletes and fans remembered the best moments of the Championships in the welcoming video prepared by the ceremony organizers. Later, the winners and medalists of the Relays and Long Distance Races were awarded.

“It is my pleasure to note that we fulfilled all the plans related to the staging of the World Ski Orienteering Championships in Krasnoyarsk, – says Viktor Tomenko, the Chairman of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Government, Chief of the Organizing Committee of the Championships. – We managed to show how interesting, capturing, and spectacular this kind of sport is. I would like to express enormous gratitude to all the people who participated in the preparation and staging of the competitions. And, of course, all our congratulations to the athletes, who stood up on the podium during these days.  After that Markku Vauhkonen, the Assistant Event Adviser of the International Orienteering Federation, announced the World Championships closed.

“This is the third time in the history when the Ski Orienteering athletes from around the world come to Krasnoyarsk, – says Markku Vauhkonen. – And we all very well know that Krasnoyarsk people organize sports events on the highest professional level. After the Championships, Krasnoyarsk city will be remembered by us with its friendliness and hospitality of people who made our stay here really unforgettable. I very much hope we will meet again here in two years at the Winter Universiade 2019.”

The concert program of the Closing Ceremony included performance of the Krasnoyarsk Creative Teams, among which Expression, Youth of the Yenisei, Jumanji, Play time, etc.
