​The Winter Universiade 2019 Flame arrived to Norilsk on January 16. This is the first city in the Krasnoyarsk Territory to welcome one of the Universiade Flame legs.
The Universiade Flame flask was delivered by a NordStar Airlines branded plane with U-Laika, the mascot of the Games, on the livery. It was the initiative of Nornickel, the General Partner of the 29th Winter Universiade Krasnoyarsk 2019, to depict the mascot on three planes of the airline company, and passengers have already named them “U-Laika planes”.

The official ceremony of meeting the Universiade Flame took place in the Norilsk airport. Stella Alekseeva, Deputy Director General of ANO “Directorate Krasnoyarsk 2019”, brought the Flame flask to the north of the Krasnoyarsk Territory; the Flame keepers accompanied her. The honorary guests were welcomed at the boarding steps by Andrey Malkov, the acting Mayor of Norilsk, Natalia Korosteleva, the Deputy Mayor of Norilsk for Social Policy, and representatives of Taymyr native peoples who were wearing national dresses and greeted the guests in five languages of the peoples inhabiting the north of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

"It's a great pleasure to have such a joyful welcome in Norilsk," says Stella Alekseeva, Deputy Director General of ANO “Directorate Krasnoyarsk 2019”, "the Flame that arrived to the Krasnoyarsk Territory today had already visited three cities during the international leg and 17 large cities of our country. The regional leg starts in Norilsk, and I'd like to invite all the citizens and guests of Norilsk to watch the Universiade Flame and support the Flame bearers on January 22. The regional leg has been specially prepared to provide an opportunity for as many people in the cities and regions of our territory as possible to find out more about the Winter Universiade 2019 and become part of this great international event."

The Winter Universiade 2019 Flame flask will be presented in The Universiade With Us interactive location in the city youth centre (Sovetskaya Street, 9) on January 17. The presentation is open to the public, and entrance will be free. The official ceremony of Flame welcoming will start at 17:00. Residents and guests of the city can visit the presentation space daily, from 17:00 till 19:00, until  January 21.

The Universiade Flame leg in Norilsk will take place on Tuesday, January 22. Before the Norilsk leg starts, the Winter Universiade Flame will visit the B.I. Kolesnikov Nadezhdinsky Metallurgical Plant. There, in the biggest Nornickel's plants in the Polar Region, the Universiade Flame will unite with the flame from metallurgical furnaces symbolising the industrial potential of the region.

Let us remind that the Winter Universiade 2019 Flame started on September 20 in Turin, Italy. During the international leg, such cities as Almaty (Kazakhstan) and Harbin (China) welcomed the flame bearers. In Russia, the Universiade Flame has already been brought to 17 cities. From January 22 till March 1, the Universiade Flame leg will reach 13 cities of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. The event ends in Krasnoyarsk one day before the start of the Game
