​Media accreditation for  the Winter Universiade 2019 has started

A start was given to the media representatives accreditation for the Winter Universiade 2019 that will be held in Krasnoayrsk. Applications can be filed by officially registered media representatives in the period up to January 15, 2019.

The Winter Universiade 2019 Krasnoyarsk will be held on March 2 -12. It will be the first time in the history that Russia has hosted the Winter Universiade. More than three thousand athletes and about two hundred thousand guests and spectators are expected to visit this festival of student sport. Moreover, 5 thousand volunteers will take part in the Winter Universiade 2019. During the Games athletes will compete for 76 awarding sets in 11 sports: Biathlon, Cross-Country Skiing, Ice Hockey, Alpine Skiing, Curling, Snowboard, Figure Skating, Short Track Speed Skating, Freestyle Skiing, Ski Orienteering, and Bandy.

Media accreditation for the Winter Universiade 2019 is organized in two stages: First of all, a media organization is to send an application including a number and a copy of the media registration certificate. An application form is available on the Winer Universiade 2019 official website. Please note that one organization is allowed to file only one application. Once the application is accepted, access to a personal account will be sent to an e-mail address specified when registering. In the personal account, the organization is to fill in the form for each media representative. All filed applications will be considered no later than February 2, 2019. Only the officially registered media are allowed for the Winter Universiade 2019 accreditation.

10 press centres at the sports venues as well as press zones in the Universiade Park and the Universiade Village will be arranged for the media work organization during the Games. Every press centre will have work places with Wi-Fi, information desks, mixed zones for athlete interviews recording, press conference halls, photo positions, media stands with access to the Internet, locker rooms, and recreation zones with hot beverages and snacks available. In addition to this, after being accredited journalists will have access to a special information service providing them with the latest facts concerning the competitions, news, photo and video materials.

All not local media representatives will be able to use a transfer going from the airport, the railway station or the bus station to the accredited accommodation places for the media in Krasnoyarsk. If needed, the Organising Committee will assist in accommodation booking. Let us note that transportation to Krasnoyarsk and back as well as accommodation in the Winter Universiade 2019 host city are paid at the expense of the media representatives.

Not less than 1,000 journalists from different countries are expected to cover the events of the Winter Universiade 2019. Provided however that not more than 9 employees from a television broadcaster can be accredited, not more than 2 representatives from a radio broadcasting station are allowed, 5 applications are planned for each information agency and the online media desiring to cover the Winter Universiade 2019, and only 4 application forms can be filed by each printing company.

All the television media will follow special rules during the competitions. They are prohibited to shoot video of the sports events from the stands and photo positions as TV broadcasting will be performed by the host broadcaster. Nevertheless, videographers are allowed to work with their equipment in mixed zones for athlete interviews recording, press conference halls, public zones and at the territory around the venues. Twice a day all the accredited media will be provided with the highlights for an individual video preparation. These include video compilations comprising the brightest moments of the Games.

Let us remind that the Universiade is a competition for students, a youth Olympics analogue (derived from the words "university" and "olympiade"). The Universiade has been the second most important multi-sport event in the world for more than 50 years. The competition is held by the International University Sports Federation (FISU) every two years. Students, graduate students and postgraduates of educational institutions under the age of 25 years have an opportunity to participate in it.
