​The oldest paratrooper from Krasnoyarsk is entered in the Book of Records of Russia.

On the eve of the International Day of Older Persons, Georgy Yivkin  received a certificate confirming his name to be entered into the Book of Records of Russia. Georgy Ivkin became the most senior veteran of the Airborne Forces of our country.

 

Georgy Yivkin was born in May 1925, and as soon as he turned 18, he was immediately drafted into the ranks of the Soviet army. He became a paratrooper in August 1943. Ivkin fought as part of the 15th guards airborne brigade until 1945. He passed from Ukraine to Vienna with fights. He made 15 parachute jumps at the front. In March 1945 he was wounded and celebrated Victory Day in a hospital near Vienna.

“I remember that victorious May, when all, even seriously wounded soldiers were carried out on stretchers from hospital wards so that they could also enjoy and  feel the power of this long-awaited moment of the coming Great Victory”, -  Ivkin says.

After demobilization, he returned to Krasnoyarsk, worked in the sphere of energy. He worked at the Research Institute as a chief engineer. His total work experience is almost 60 years. Georgy Yivkin  was awarded the Decoration "Combat veteran 1941-1945", "Order of the Patriotic War" 2nd class, medal of Zhukov. He has commemorative awards as a veteran of the airborne troops.

He is the living connection of times and generations. Knowledge, wisdom and the richest experience are the wealth, that Georgy Yivkin has been transmitting to young people in our district for many years”, - Head of the  Kirovskiy district Elena Lanina said.
