On March 16, the youth creative business centre Pilot hosted another test of students participating in the 50 Countries / 50 Schools Winter Universiade 2019 Project. This time, the competent jury evaluated the videos that the students filmed in support of the countries expected to participate in the Games. The panel of judges consisted of the Chairman of the Commission of the Legislative Assembly of the Krasnoyarsk Territory in preparation for the Winter Universiade 2019, the famous biathlonist Pavel Rostovtsev; Ambassador of the Winter Universiade 2019, Olympic medalist in snowboarding Nikolay Olyunin; and other experts.

When shooting the videos, students used posters and chants to support athletes, talked about their sporting achievements, and showed comedy sketches dedicated to the chosen country. The team from Gymnasium No. 3 with a video dedicated to South Korea won the contest at the end. The students filmed a music video with a lively dance performance for a song in English and Korean languages. They talked about the winners of the Olympic Games and famous athletes from South Korea. The jury also awarded the support group from Gymnasium No. 3 with a victory in the additional nomination “Professionalism”.

According to the project manager of the “50 Countries / 50 Schools” Project from Gymnasium No. 3, English teacher Tatiana Popova, her team did not immediately select the country to support: “While we were thinking, other support groups almost snapped up the countries participating in the Winter Universiade 2019. So we ended up with South Korea. And suddenly it became clear that in parallel group where I work, there are experts and fans of this country among tenth-graders. They are fond of K-Pop musical genre, so they were eager to start shooting the video. We are sharpening our tools and learning Korean phrases in dribs and drabs. They already know a good deal about the country. We look forward to welcoming guests from South Korea!”.

The team from School No. 151 ranked second with a video about Armenia. The students talked to the Olympic medalist, Greco-Roman wrestler Migran Arutyunyan and received an additional award in the nomination “Live Dialogue”. The third place was shared by the team from Lyceum No. 9 with a video about Finland, and contestants from school No. 98 with a video clip in support of Chinese athletes.

According to Deputy Head of the Winter Universiade 2019 Directorate Konstantin Gureev, it was not easy to choose the winner. Mr. Gureev noted: “Each storyline is built quite differently from the perspective of the operator’s and director’s work and selection of the material. It is evident that all children are united by the desire to learn as much as possible about the countries they will support. They studied a lot of materials, and everyone put their heart into the creation of these videos. We are confident that no country participating in the Winter Universiade 2019 will be left without support. Your videos are proof of that”.

Overall, following the contest results, 17 support groups from different Krasnoyarsk schools received awards in special nominations, such as “Best Foreign-Language Video”, “Best Comedy Show”, “Best Leading Role”, “Best Reconstruction of Sports Event”, “Chants - Fire!”, and many others.
