Delegates of National University Sports Federations visited Krasnoyarsk

Delegates of National University Sports Federations (NUSF) came to Krasnoyarsk to see the venues of the Winter Universiade-2019 and to discuss the most important issues concerning the preparation for the competition.

The official visit of the representatives of the National University Sports Federations to the organizer city a year before the beginning of the Student Games became the first in the history of Universiades. Previously NUSF representatives traditionally visited the venues for the competitions several months before the start. However, this time, at the initiative of the International Federation of Student Sport (FISU), it was decided to start holding such meetings in advance.

In March 2018 the representatives of seven sports federations from the USA, Estonia, Great Britain, France, Japan, Kazakhstan and Russia visited Krasnoyarsk. During the visit, they saw the sports facilities of the Winter Universiade-2019: the multifunctional sports complex "Sopka", the biathlon academy, the Palace of Sports named after Ivan Yarygin and the village of the Student Games. NUSF representatives checked and praised the Winter Universiade-2019 facilities level of preparation, surveyed the venues where athletes will compete, and also gave their recommendations on preparation for the Student Games.

Deputy head of the USA NUSF delegation Neil Li Holden shared his impressions: "Our main task is to get to know Krasnoyarsk. The trip from the United States to Siberia is not a short one, and it is important for us to see and tell our colleagues what wonderful conditions you have here, so that they become really eager to come here. Most sports represented in the sports program of the Winter Universiade-2019 are very attractive. For example, ice hockey. I am sure that ice hockey competitions will be very interesting for American athletes, as well as competitions in speed skating, alpine skiing and freestyle".

President of the Republic of Kazakhstan NUSF Kairat Zakiryanov highly praised the level of preparation for the Student Games: "Today we looked at all facilities and resources, and I have no doubt that the Winter Universiade-2019 will be held in a most proper way." We can already see how the city is being transformed. "Krasnoyarsk citizens will get a great legacy, thanks to these competitions Siberia is now building a beautiful future for young athletes."

On March 2d, exactly one year before the start of the Winter Universiade-2019, an invitation campaign was launched for the countries whose national teams can take part in the Student Games. Official invitations were sent to 176 National University Sports Federations. In the middle of March, an online remote accreditation system will start operating, through which teams from any countries of the world will be able to apply for participation in the Winter Universiade-2019. The collection of applications will end on February 2d, 2019. In October 2018 in Krasnoyarsk, it is planned to hold a meeting of the heads of delegations of National University Sports Federations that will have registered by then for the participation in the Winter Universiade-2019.
