On May 22, 2017 Russia made an application for the holding of the world exhibition "EXPO-2025" in Yekaterinburg. The application is supported by a letter from the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev. The exhibition is to be held from May 2 to November 2, 2025. The topic of the exhibition is "Transforming the world: innovations and a better life for future generations".

Among the applicants to hold the international universal exhibition, along with Yekaterinburg are such cities as Osaka (Japan), Paris (France) and Baku (Azerbaijan).

"In 2012, when Krasnoyarsk applied for the Universiade, almost all the cities of our country supported us. Such friendly unified support was one of the factors that helped our city win a difficult race for the right to host International student games. I believe that we, the Krasnoyarsk citizens must support Yekaterinburg in its effort to become a venue for EXPO-2025," said Mayor of Krasnoyarsk Sergei Eremin.
