Mayor of Krasnoyarsk Sergei Eremin had a meeting with the delegation of the Asia-Pacific Energy Research Center and APEC experts

In 2016 Krasnoyarsk took part in the contest for the implementation of the APEC Low Carbon Model Town (LCMT) project. In December 2016, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan announced Krasnoyarsk became the winner of the contest for the implementation of the 7th phase of the APEC LCMT project. This project is being implemented jointly with the Asia-Pacific Energy Research Center (APERC). As a result of the competitive selection, the Japanese company Nikken Sekkei was appointed an expert to conduct the Feasibility Study in Krasnoyarsk. The object of attention of foreign experts was the analysis of the work of industrial and heat and power supply facilities, public transport and other spheres. As a result, recommendations were developed for the introduction of low-carbon technologies. Currently the delegation of APERC with APEC economies experts arrived to Krasnoyarsk to sum up the results of the joint work and make a Policy Review.

"I am very happy to come to Krasnoyarsk, especially since the Siberian city meets us with cool, but comfortable weather," APERC President, Mr. Takato Ojimi, addressed the Mayor of Krasnoyarsk. - Since 2010, six cities around the world have become low-carbon model towns. Such cities are located in China, Thailand, Indonesia, Peru, the Philippines, Vietnam. Russia is the seventh country in the project and it is represented by your city. Krasnoyarsk is unique in its own way: it is located deep inside the continent, has a particularly cold climate and requires rather high heating and air conditioning costs. The project studied three elements: the production of electricity, its consumption and the possibility of applying energy efficiency on both sides in these specific geographical conditions."

As Mr. Takato Ojimi noted, Krasnoyarsk will be the last city within the project to become a new model of low-carbon development. It should be noted that low-carbon cities are territories with dynamically developing economy, maintaining at the same time a relatively low level of energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.

The Mayor of Krasnoyarsk Sergei Eremin noted that participation in such a project plays an important role for the development of Krasnoyarsk: "Environmental issues are very important for our city and its residents. Therefore, the recommendations of the project experts will be taken into account in the program of social and economic development of the city. The specialists carried out a very scrupulous and comprehensive study that covered thermal power stations, industrial enterprises, functioning of apartment houses and microdistricts ... I expect that the expert evaluation of the representatives of APERC and APEC economies experts will help to find new, effective solutions that will allow Krasnoyarsk to "move forward" on the environmental issues".

The report on the studies carried out within the framework of the APEC LCMT project will be discussed this week with the participation of all the experts involved in this work. In the future, the final recommendations will serve as a model for designing low-carbon cities in Russia and other APEC countries with similar climatic conditions.
