Plenipotentiary representative of the President of the Russian Federation in Siberian Federal District, Sergey Menyaylo, together with the Acting Governor of the region, Alexander Uss, held a meeting on the preparation and delivery of the Games in Krasnoyarsk.

The meeting was also attended by the members of the Regional Government and representatives of the supervisory and law enforcement agencies of Siberian Federal District. The main topics for discussion were the completion of the construction of the venues used by athletes during the Winter Universiade as well as the provision of the security of participants and spectators.

During the meeting, Viktor Tomenko, Acting Head of the Government of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, presented the report on preparations for the delivery of the Games. As he mentioned, the construction of the Winter Universiade 2019 venues is conducted in accordance with previously established schedules, and some of the venues will be commissioned even earlier than planned.

A complicated situation is occurring only at one of the 34 sites - at the construction site of the Universiade Village multipurpose complex, where the nutrition production center will be located and where the subcontractor has not coped with the scope of work. The construction customer - Siberian Federal University will terminate the contract, after which the new subcontractor will be determined who will continue the construction of the complex without changing the final terms of the commissioning.

Also, according to Viktor Tomenko, the purchase of special equipment necessary for the full operation of the constructed venues, such as snow groomers, ice resurfacers, snowmobiles, and sports equipment, is being considered.

In addition, Viktor Tomenko also talked about the preparation of organizational events. The chief director of the opening and closing ceremonies of the Games has already been chosen – it will be Ilia Averbukh. Now his team is developing the concept and scenario plans for the ceremonies. They are also working on preparation of the torch relay and the cultural programme for all the guests of Krasnoyarsk during the Winter Universiade 2019. Recruitment and training of the staff, who will be working at the sports venues, is being conducted. The ticketing programme has been developed. According to the estimates of specialists, over 600 thousand tickets for spectators will be sold during the Games.

Sergey Menyaylo highly appreciated the general level of preparation of Krasnoyarsk for the Winter Universiade. However, he noted that the most difficult work is still ahead: the commissioning of facilities, the improvement of the territory of Krasnoyarsk city, the development of concerted actions on cooperation among various services and specialists on their positions. "It’s a little over a year before the start of the Winter Universiade 2019, therefore our main task now is to concentrate on solving any problems associated with the delivery of the Games.

“In general, a lot of work has been done. The delay in construction, which has been revealed earlier, was largely eliminated. Though there is still a problem with the construction of the multifunctional center, the plan for this particular venue will be developed separately. Now we need to concentrate our attention on every little thing associated with the Universiade. The Olympics in Sochi and the Summer Universiade 2013 in Tatarstan set very high standard. We have someone to follow and something to strive for.” - said Sergey Menyaylo.

“Indeed, there are no critical situations in terms of construction of the venues,” - Alexander Uss noted after the meeting. “The only worry is caused by the construction of the multifunctional center. Yet, today we met with the contractor who is ready to cooperate with the new company and provide his own equipment for construction. The work will be conducted in three shifts, but I am sure that we will be satisfied with the results.” - the Head of the Krasnoyarsk Territory said.

Alexander Uss also noted that a large amount of work on the improvement of the city of Krasnoyarsk will be implemented during the next summer. "Sergey Yeremin, the new mayor of Krasnoyarsk, is currently conducting an audit of the city's problems, and specialists from Moscow and St. Petersburg are as well taking part in this work. We will also be completing some tasks in winter, "Alexander Uss said.

We would like to add that before the meeting, Sergey Menyaylo and Alexander Uss evaluated the construction of the venues of the Winter Universiade 2019: Multi-functional Sports Complex "Sopka" and the Multi-functional Center of the Universiade Village.
