The Mayor of Krasnoyarsk Edkham Akbulatov signed an agreement to initiate the research in the framework of the APEC Low Carbon Model Town Project

As we have previously informed, in December of 2016 Krasnoyarsk became the winner of the Low Carbon Model Town Project of Asia Pacific Energy Research Center (APERC). This phase of the project involves the application of low carbon technologies to the inland area with high demand for heating and air conditioning. As a result of the competitive selection conducted by APEC, as the expert for Krasnoyarsk phase of the project was chosen the architectural bureau "Nikken Sekkei" (Tokyo, Japan).

Yesterday a foreign delegation, headed by the Director for Natural Resources and Energy Research of the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy (ANRE) of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan, Shinji Ishii, arrived in Krasnoyarsk to initiate the research in the framework of the Low Carbon Model Town Project.

"The reduction of carbon emissions and other pollutants, the creation of a more favorable environment in Krasnoyarsk is a very important task. We need to find design solutions that will allow a step-by-step approach to the goal important for all the citizens of Krasnoyarsk. We are seriously committed to working in that direction. I expect that the research carried out under the grant by our Japanese partners - "Nikken Sekkei" company will be the beginning of a great work, but in any case it all starts with the first step", - said at the beginning of the meeting with the Japanese delegation the Mayor of Krasnoyarsk Edkham Akbulatov.

The Executive Director of the Nikken Sekkei Research Institute Shinji Yamamura noted that Krasnoyarsk is the first Russian city to participate in the Low Carbon Model Town Project.

"The project in Krasnoyarsk has a unique value. Previously, our attention was focused on the cities in the Asia-Pacific countries with warm climate. And Krasnoyarsk is an inland city with a cold climate. During the implementation of the project, we will be thoroughly examining the work of CHP plants and boilers, and the potential for reducing carbon dioxide emissions. Sustainable environmental development is important for any major city. A city that follows this route becomes competitive, which brings to it both human and economic resources", said Mr. Shinji Yamamura.

It should be noted that the research Work Group within the APEC Low Carbon Model Town Project also includes representatives of the Siberian Federal University and the construction company "Monolitholding". After the meeting with the Mayor of Krasnoyarsk, a 4-party agreement on the collaborative work was signed.
