Hospitable Imatra said final goodbyes to athletes. Krasnoyarsk will become the next meeting place of the best world ski orienteering athletes. The 22nd World Ski Orienteering Championships starts in Krasnoyarsk on March 5-13, 2017. In addition to this important international event, this Championship will become the first test event as a part of the preparation to the 29th Winter Universiade Krasnoyarsk 2019.

The competition will take place in the territory of the regional biathlon academy. It took a lot of hard work in order to accept starts of the international level: according to the safety requirements, a checkpoint was built through which athletes and viewers will get to the stadium. An old referee house was also reconstructed to a  modern building and  new tribunes were equipped for allocating about 1500 fans. The dream of ski orienteering athletes, biathlonists and skier came true - Academy now can prepare trails using modern system of creating imitation snow.

Commentators will work at the stadium and inform the participants about the most interesting moments of the race. In addition, two big screens will be installed here and fans will be able to monitor on-line how athletes move on.

By the way, for 15 seconds before the start of each race the athlete will receive a map of the area where checkpoints were signified.   He should make a decision in a moment - from the selecting of the movement scheme from the start to the first checkpoint. Ski orienting now applies an electronic marking system. Athlete runs near the control point in a radius of 60 cm, and chip activates.

There are five Krasnoyarsk athletes in the team.

Vice-President of the Sport Orienteering Federation of Russia Alexander Bliznevskiy told about the team participants of the World Championship: «Representatives of 21 countries will come here. The most titled athletes today are presented by the European continent. There are ski orienteering athletes from Sweden, Norway and Finland. There are also strong ski orienteering athletes in teams of Bulgaria, Switzerland, Estonia, Lithuania. The Asian continent is also well presented by Japan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan teams.  I am sure, that every day in the Championship we will observe bright struggle!»

Five representatives of Krasnoyarsk were included in the Russian national team - Kirill Veselov, Andrey Grigoryiev, Vladimir Barchukov, Polina Frolova and Yulia Tarasenko.

«It would be harder to perform for Krasnoyarsk athletes - because it's very difficult to compete at home», said Aleksandr Yurevich. «We seriously changed our training system this season: according to the rules, we couldn't train at home, where the World Championship will be conducted. Our athletes are constantly on the move after October 15. They were at home for one day, 14 February, and the next day team arrived to the training camp in the  Vershina Tey village in the base of the Khakassia Ministry of Sport, where a good training center was built. Our athletes will arrive in Krasnoyarsk only on the morning, March 5».
