The closing ceremony of the XXVIII World Winter Universiade took place in Almaty yesterday. By tradition, the competition ended with a colorful show and the summarizing of the results. The highlight of the closing ceremony was the parade of the teams participating in the Universiade: all athletes - the messengers of the leading universities of the world paraded in front of the spectators together, showing that the most important thing is a spirit of friendship and unity.

The culmination of the ceremony was the handing over of the flag from Almaty to the capital of the next Winter Universiade - Krasnoyarsk. Akim (Kazakh for "mayor") of Almaty Mr. Baibek addressed the participants of the ceremony,
"The next Winter Universiade 2019 will take place in Russia. It will be the first winter one for this country. We know Krasnoyarsk as one of the few cities that can hold the competitions at a high level - it is a major scientific and educational, cultural and sports center of Russia. The Universiade has helped our cities to learn more about each other and let us become good friends. It will be a start for cooperation and expanding cultural and economic connections. Almaty is ready to share our experience in preparation for such an important competition with our colleagues from Siberia."

12,000 spectators gathered in the stands of the main complex of the Winter Universiade 2017 "Almaty Arena" applauded while the FISU flag was passed from the hands of the akim of Almaty Baurzhan Baibek on to the President of the International University Sports Federation Oleg Matytsin and then - to the Mayor of Krasnoyarsk Edkham Akbulatov.
"This moment launches the XXIX World Universiade in Krasnoyarsk. I sincerely hope that Krasnoyarsk will be as worthy as the capital of the Universiade! I express my deep gratitude to the FISU, that helps bring up new champions, lets dreams come true and young people become closer to each other. I thank Almaty for your special atmosphere of hospitality, bright victories, heartfelt emotions. 752 days separate us from the Winter Universiade 2019. Our city is looking forward to meeting the guests. See you in Krasnoyarsk! Real Winter!" addressed the participants of the closing ceremony the Mayor of Krasnoyarsk Edkham Akbulatov.

The Flag transfer ceremony became a chance to introduce the next capital of the Student Games to the participants and guests of the Winter Universiade 2017. "Almaty Arena" lit up with the northern lights as the audience watched the famous national Taimyr team  "Heyero" with national songs and dances of the peoples of the North. For the audience was recreated the legend of the Yenisei, in which a young man sacrifices his heart to melt the ice of the mighty river. Krasnoyarsk folk singer Clara Polukhina performed a Slavic song "River". An Ambassador of the Winter Universiade 2019, Olympic champion in figure skating Alexei Yagudin charmed the audience with his solo performance on ice. Colourful videos of Krasnoyarsk and the Siberian nature, sports and student community were followed by the invitation of all participants of the ceremony and of the TV broadcast audience to Krasnoyarsk in 2019. We'd also like to note that the ceremony was directed by an Ambassador of the Winter Universiade 2019, a famous producer of ice shows Ilya Averbukh.
