The 17th Winter Surikov Art Festival opened in the Small Concert Hall of the Krasnoyarsk Regional Philharmonics. The opening theatrical concert titled "Descendants of Surikov" was performed by young musicians from children's art schools and professional creative groups: the Krasnoyarsk Chamber Orchestra conducted by Mikhail Benyumov, Ekaterina Baulina's Krasnoyarsk Chamber Choir, the dance ensemble Yeniseiskie Zori and the Volnitsa Philharmonic Ensemble conducted by Andrey Bulatnikov.

Before the start of the concert, the guests had the opportunity to visit a specially created exhibition "Surikov and Music". There, one could see the famous artist's guitar, as well as his musical collection of Beethoven's sonatas. On one of its pages, Vasily Ivanovich himself highlighted his favorite pieces. Those were the ones to actually form the basis of the programme for the closing concert of the Festival, which will take place on January 24.

Such a constellation of young talents and eminent masters is a vivid example of successful mentorship and careful preservation of pedagogical traditions in the field of art and culture of our dear city. I wish the participants and organisers of the festival to realise all their ideas, and surprise and captivate the audiences again, — said Mayor of Krasnoyarsk Vladislav Loginov at the opening of the Festival.
