In the coming days, the Winter on the Strelka project will be furnished out with a dozen original ice compositions. Participants of the youth ice sculpture competition – teams of students from Krasnoyarsk educational institutions – have already started their work. The event takes place as part of the XVI Winter Surikov Art Festival.

The competition is held in Ice category, without any thematic restrictions. The main goal of the event organisers is popularisation of modern culture, art technologies of working with unusual materials.

«For most of the contest participants, it's their first time creating artistic compositions from ice. We will do our best to help our artists reveal their ideas, to please the people of Krasnoyarsk with creative sculptures. We will be especially happy if one of them becomes seriously interested in this art and strives for real mastery,» – said Alexander Zaitsev, president of the Krasnoyarsk city public fund for decorative and fine Siberian art (Dixie).

Despite the ever-growing January frost, many citizens come to see the work of young ice sculptors.

The site behind the monument to Commander Nikolai Rezanov, where 10 student teams are working on competitive figures, was also visited by Krasnoyarsk Mayor Sergei Eremin. He talked both to the organisers and participants of the art competition, studied the sketches and wished the novice ice carvers victory in the competition.

— For many years, in January, Krasnoyarsk became a venue for the large-scale international festival Magic Ice of Siberia. Second year in a row, however, due to anti-COVID restrictions, the organisers are taking a forced pause. This year we started this project to give young Krasnoyarsk artists the opportunity to create their first ice sculptures. I am sure that in the coming days the frost will subside, and hundreds of Krasnoyarsk citizens of all ages will come to see how ice masterpieces are being born. I wish all the participants of the competition successful implementation of projects, a fair fight and a well-deserved victory!
