Preparations for the New Year holidays come to a close in every district of Krasnoyarsk. Entrepreneurs, local organisations, volunteers and even children are actively involved in decorating trees, windows, shos, facades and the whole squares and adjacent territory.

For example, some owners of coffee shops and restaurants used retro belt-light garlands to maintain a uniform street Christmas style. Some entrepreneurs have also added glowing figures to the garlands and decorated the trees growing nearby.

School students and kids from kindergartens are happy to create a New Year's atmosphere in classes and groups. Parents and teachers joined the traditional pre-holiday creativity. They know very well that the most amazing New Year's decorations can be made from improvised means. Great Christmas trees and snowmen are made from plastic cups, wallpaper scraps, cotton pads, and chocolate Kinder Surprise toys.

This is a family competition, with children taking an active part in it. More than 2,000 works were initially introduced for the regional stages of the competition, of which 210 got to the finale. Among them are masks, papier-mâché figurines, knitted toys. The most important criteria that jury members use when evaluating such different crafts are handicraft and originality of the idea.

Some districts' volunteers decorated public transport stops with Christmas-themed crafts: stars, tiger cubs, bunnies and other animals. All toys are made by the hands of the Krasnoyarsk youth as well.

FInally, the main city clock tower plays New Year's melodies to encourage holiday spirit in everyone.

Up until January 14, the traditional chiming of the clock will alternate with five different variants of recognizable festive melodies on the city hall tower. Melodies will be played daily from 09:00 to 21:00.

The city clock will perform "Five Minutes" from the movie "Carnival Night", a march and "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" from the ballet "Nutcracker", "Happy New Year" by ABBA and, of course, "A Christmas tree was born in the forest".
