On the 8th of September, the Opening of the XIXth International Festival of Chamber-Orchestral Music "Asia - Siberia - Europe" took place in the Small Concert Hall of the Krasnoyarsk Regional Philharmonic.

Every year the festival brings together musicians from different parts of the world, introduces Krasnoyarsk residents to the sound of exotic instruments, offers musical surprises and world-class premieres. This year the Festival's opening concert featured, besides the Krasnoyarsk Chamber Orchestra, a brilliant Swiss conductor and artistic director of the I TEMPI Orchestra in Basel Gevorg Gharabekyan, the headliner of the festival - Eliana Burki (alpine horn) and the guests from St. Petersburg - the Mariinsky Wind Quintet.

The program included the Swiss classical music of the XX-XXI centuries, as well as Symphony No.2 by Ludwig Van Beethoven. Among the performed pieces there were three premieres. For the first time in Krasnoyarsk were performed "Summer Pastoral" by the Swiss composer Arthur Honegger (1920) and "Adagietto for Strings" by contemporary Swiss composer David Hefti. One more Krasnoyarsk premiere was performed by Eliana Burki. Together with the orchestra, the Swiss alpine horn virtuoso presented Daniel Schnyder's “Concerto for the Alpine Horn”.

Over the nineteen years of the Asia-Siberia-Europe festival's history, the main thing has been achieved - the audience is looking forward to this event, buying tickets in advance, striving to discover something new in the music world. Unfortunately, due to the current restrictions, we cannot fill the halls to their maximum capacity, but we are still very glad that the festival is taking place, despite the current difficult situation in the concert industry.

"Asia - Siberia - Europe" is held under the patronage of the Mayor of Krasnoyarsk and, this year, with the support of the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia. The opening was attended by Sergei Eremin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Swiss Confederation to the Russian Federation Krystyna Marty Lang and Head ad interim of Pro Helvetia Moscow Natalia Ruchkina.

This festival, by and large, uniting two global civilizations, builds a bridge between East and West here, in Krasnoyarsk. We were looking forward to it with special excitement, and the forced break only made stronger the audience's "cultural appetite". Last weekend, amid the Siberian mountains, thousands of Krasnoyarsk residents had a chance to hear a real alpine horn accompanied by the Krasnoyarsk Chamber Orchestra. It was unforgettable. I would like to thank the Krasnoyarsk Chamber Orchestra for their great ability to inspire, unite and gather talented musicians from all over the world on the Krasnoyarsk stage! We thank the participants of the festival and everyone who supports this beautiful event and makes this wonderful musical festival possible!

Sergei Eremin, Mayor of Krasnoyarsk

The festival will continue until September, 19. Krasnoyarsk residents will be offered six more concert programs, with traditional Indian music and alpine horn jazz improvisations. Also within the framework of the festival, the audience will haver a chance to see the masterpieces of Charlie Chaplin "The Kid" and "A Dog's Life", accompanied by the Krasnoyarsk Chamber Orchestra.
