International Visa payment system and the Urbanica Institute for Spatial Planning have compiled a ranking of large Russian cities in terms of options available for paying for public transport fares. Experts took into account the availability of various methods and ways of payment: electronic wallets, electronic methods (e.g. bank cards, smartphones), cash desks, ticket barriers, validators or conductor terminals. As part of the study, experts analyzed 18 Russian cities with a population of over 750 thousand people.

The Krasnoyarsk public transport payment system scored 9.9 points out of 10 possible, second only to the capital.

According to Alexey Denisov, Senior Director at the Digital Solutions Department of the Russian Visa branch, there are no shortcomings of innovative solutions in Moscow and Krasnoyarsk, and there are many payment options available.

«The function of paying by credit card is installed in all electric transport of the city and is available in 56 out of 58 bus routes. Part of the city's transport is equipped with stationary terminals for payment by credit card – in total, there are 500 such terminals installed in 250 buses, trolleybuses and trams,» –  said Vitaly Cheusov, Deputy Head of the Department of Transport.
