The project of the Russian Geographical Society’s (RGO) Krasnoyarsk branch «Cape Chelyuskin», as part of the XXIX World Winter Universiade in the city of Krasnoyarsk, took first place in the Public Recognition category of the Russian Geographical Society Crystal Compass annual national award.

Thousands of visitors left their positive reviews during the Winter Universiade-2019. A large number of them were the people with a request to preserve the idea of this historical location in the form of a permanent museum complex. Originally, the location was organised just for educational purposes as part of the project to create a Park-Museum dedicated to the Development of the North on historic Molokov Island in Krasnoyarsk.

By the end of the Universiade, the Cape Chelyuskin location of the regional branch of RGO was visited by more than 100 thousand people in total, as it turned out to be one of the most popular locations in the Universiade Park.

«The initial idea of creating the Cape Chelyuskin location belongs to the Governor of Krasnoyarsk Region Alexander Uss, who heads the Board of Trustees of the Krasnoyarsk regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society. It’s important to highlight that this victory is a victory for all residents of the region. Many thanks to everyone for their support, and many thanks to every participant of our project,» – said Igor Spiridenko, Chairman of the Krasnoyarsk regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society.

More than 240 projects and achievements from 15 countries of the world, including Australia, the USA, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Ireland and others, have been nominated for the Oscars of the geographical world. Among Russian participants are representatives of 59 regions. The Krasnoyarsk project was recognised by the Russian public as the best. A total of 43 647 people cast their votes, leading Cape Chelyuskin to a glorious success.
