​The main New Year's location of Krasnoyarsk, a Christmas tree on Tatyshev island, opened in the evening of December 25, with the festive programme and fireworks galore.

Hundreds of residents gathered at the event, creative groups performed for the guests, Mayor of the city Sergei Eremin congratulated everyone on both the upcoming New Year and the launch of the ice town.

«The outgoing year was unique. We have met thousands of guests from all over the planet. And I am sure that in the first place, they were captivated by the hospitality and friendliness of the townspeople. Thank you, Krasnoyarsk! And my New Year’s wish is true happiness to my beloved city and every Krasnoyarsk citizen!» – ­Sergei Eremin said in his congratulatory speech.

The concept of ice locations is how Krasnoyarsk is the soul and energy of Siberia. The sculptures feature images of Siberia, nature.

The ice town is to be divided into several territories:

• Hospitality zone;
• Wind zone;
• Siberia zone;
• Children zone.
• The 55-meter Christmas tree topped the list of the highest New Year trees in the country. Yekaterinburg is next, with a 50-meter tree, then Kazan with a 35-meter spruce, Barnaul and Tula (32 meters each), as well as Kaliningrad (30.5 meters).
