​The grand opening of the XIV Winter Surikov Art Festival took place on December 24. The programme was opened by the immersive play titled «Boyarina Morozova». The large-scale production brought together talented Krasnoyarsk dancers, musicians, video artists, designers and models on the stage of the Small Concert Hall.

«Boyarina Morozova is a combination of classic and modern stage play. The creative approach has led to a legitimate contemporary performance. This is a completely fresh view by young and talented Krasnoyarsk creators on the history and artistic heritage of Vasily Surikov,» – Mayor of Krasnoyarsk Sergei Eremin noted.

«Boyarina Morozova» became a theatrical production at the junction of various genres of art, where a place for choreography, instrumental music, vocals, design and professional modeling has been found. Using a synthesis of live music, movement and entertainment, the authors of the play told the tragic life story of the noblewoman Theodosia Morozova and scenically embodied a non-text interpretation of the famous painting by Vasily Surikov.

The dancers of the ZION contemporary choreography studio, the models of the international modeling agency I.M.A., the artist of the choir of the Opera and Ballet Theatre Anastasia Ivanova all performed on the stage together. The show during the performance of thematic design collections has become a visual metaphor for the plot. The instrumental music of the SIBERIAN PERCUSSION orchestra, as well as the vocal performance of the choir of the Krasnoyarsk Ivanov-Radkevich College of Art.

Before the play beginning, guests had the opportunity to to admire the thematic exhibition located in the lobby of the Small Concert Hall. Using paintings with images of the noblewoman Morozova and historical texts in the Old Slavic language, student artists created an atmosphere that takes viewers into a dramatic and mysterious space.
