On August 18 and 19 in the village of Yemelyanovo, at the "Mustang" horse race course, the Annual Regional Agricultural Exhibition-fair was held. This year, more than eight thousand people from all over the Krasnoyarsk Region participated in it. The exhibition offered various venues for the visitors: there you could see farm animals and birds of rare breeds, purchase plants and seeds for your garden, taste farm products and learn, for example, how to shear sheep properly.

The Regional Agricultural Exhibition-fair traditionally takes place as part of the specialized event “Field Day”, which combines not only the festive, but also the business program, where they sum up the results of the year and also share plans for the next one. The Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Region Alexander Uss held an extended meeting with the representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Trade as well as representatives of the agro-industrial complex of the region. The Governor recalled that the farmers of the region are consistently achieving high results, and the region completed the past year with yields above the average in Siberia.

“The expected agricultural production this year will increase by 4-4.5 billion rubles compared to the previous year and will exceed 81 billion rubles. First of all, we expect growth in crop production, as well as in other sectors - for example, the increase in milk production this year will exceed 14 thousand tons, and egg production will increase by almost 26 million pieces.” said Alexander Uss.

The festive program included many events - both for ordinary viewers and for professionals. For example, at the presentation of dairy goats, an expert assessment of the animals was given by doctors of agricultural sciences - representatives of the All-Russian Research Institute of Sheep and Goat Breeding from Stavropol Svetlana Novopashina and the All-Russian Research Institute of Breeding from Moscow Salaudi Hatatayev.

One of the most unusual workshops was dedicated to shearing sheep. “Strigal” (the cattle shearing specialist) from Khakassia spoke in detail and showed how to bring beauty to these animals.

While the goats were being evaluated and sheep sheared, the visitors of the exhibition examined the numerous pavilions with domestic animals: pigs, sheep, geese, ducks, turkeys and even peacocks - not every rural economy can boast such a variety.

One of the exhibitors came from Solontsy, taking with her the best representatives of four chicken breeds at once. She has been engaged in breeding work with poultry (brood stock for breeding chickens and hatching eggs) for 15 years - now she has more than 300 hens.

“The breeds of hens - like all animals - differ in external appearance: feather, color, body shape ... All indicators are maintained according to strict standards, if there are drawbacks, we reject them,” says Larisa.

For 30 years Valery has been breeding sheep of a new breed: now his farm, located 30 km from Krasnoyarsk, contains about 450 animals.

“Most owners of goats and sheep acquire animals of already existing breeds - I am engaged in breeding myself. The new breed has no name yet, but it is already at the approval stage; I think I’ll call it “Krasnoyarsk meat-and-wool”: it has excellent meat qualities and high-quality wool,” says Valery. Valery can be mistaken for an American farmer. But he himself is from Krasnoyarsk, and he promotes a local breed – possibly, future pride of Russian sheep breeding.
