02.08.2019In 2019 Krasnoyarsk celebrates 50 years since the start of rugby competitions in our city. In honor of this significant date the city plans to hold the Festival "Krasnoyarsk Rugby is 50", from August 14 to 18. These dates will offer competitions among various age groups, meetings of athletes representing Krasnoyarsk clubs with city residents, a rugby veterans match, sporting events, a procession of rugby fans, and a concert by a famous music group.
On the final day of the Festival, August 18, rugby fans’ columns coming from two banks will cross the Communal Bridge and come the Central Stadium to watch a match where veterans of Krasnoyarsk and Novokuznetsk, who played the first match in the history of Siberian rugby 50 years ago, will enter the field. Later that day, at 17.00 the traditional confrontation of the "Krasny Yar" and "Yenisei-STM" rugby teams with elements of the show will take place. The Festival at the Central Stadium will end with a concert of the Russian group "Zveri".

The admission to the events at the Central Stadium will be free of charge. Flyers for the final event of the Festival can be found at mass sports events in Krasnoyarsk, which will take place during the beginning of August - Athlete's Day (August 10), a mass sports festival dedicated to rugby on Tatyshev Island (August 17), matches of rugby clubs (July 31 and August 5). On August 18, flyer owners will be able to exchange them for tickets in the fan zones of the Krasnoyarsk rugby clubs, which will be organized on the left and right banks of Krasnoyarsk: on Predmostnaya Square in the “Yenisei-STM” fan zone and on Theater Square in the “Krasny Yar” fan zone. These sites will begin their work at 14.30. Those who do not have time to get flyers at previous events will be able to get free entrance tickets directly in the fan zones.

Several competitions to be held in Krasnoyarsk in August will also be timed to coincide with the 50th Anniversary of Krasnoyarsk rugby: the Russian rugby championship among young men born in 2002 (from 10 to 18 August, the Solontsy Stadium), a tournament in memory of Viktor Ivanovich Zeer ( August 14, the Avangard Stadium), a rugby tournament in memory of Igor Kuperman among senior youths (August 16, the Krasny Yar Stadium), matches of the Russian Rugby-7 championship (August 16 and 17, Krasny Yar and Avangard Stadiums). There will also be other tournaments and friendly matches.
For the reference:
The history of Krasnoyarsk rugby begins in 1969, when the Polytechnic team was created on the basis of the Polytechnic Institute (currently, the Krasny Yar Rugby Club). In 1974, the SibTyazhMash rugby club was formed (currently, the Yenisei-STM Rugby Club). “Krasny Yar” and “Yenisei-STM” jointly won 21 titles of champions of the USSR and Russia, won the Russian Cup 15 times. Players of Krasnoyarsk teams have repeatedly become champions and winners of European championships, participants of World Cups, European club tournaments. The rugby players of Krasnoyarsk clubs form the basis of the Russian national rugby and rugby-7 teams, both in adult and youth categories.

Today, more than 3,000 people in 38 municipalities of the region are involved in rugby. Since September 2012, schools in the Krasnoyarsk Region organized testing of the third lesson in physical education - “rugby”, teaching contactless rugby. Since 2013, the program has been operating on an ongoing basis. Today it includes more than 240 educational institutions in more than 30 territories of the region. With the participation of the Ministry of Education of the Krasnoyarsk Region and the Yenisei-STM Rugby Club, more than 180 physical education teachers were organized and trained in cities and territories of the Krasnoyarsk Region.
On the basis of the famous Krasnoyarsk clubs “Krasny Yar” and “Yenisei-STM”, two rugby sports schools of the same name successfully operate. These two Krasnoyarsk sports schools are the only ones in Russia that take part in the Russian rugby championships in all age groups.
Branches of these club youth sports schools operate in 22 territories of the Krasnoyarsk Region. In total, sports schools bring together 1,500 students and more than 50 trainers. The successes and results shown by the rugby teams allowed last August to open
the Siberia Rugby Academy, which is involved in the development of rugby in the regions of the Eastern Siberia and the Far East.
