The Flame Torch of the first Russian Winter Universiade was handed over to Ural Federal University. The event marked the beginning of the Yekaterinburg bidding campaign to host the Summer Universiade 2023.

Stella Alekseeva, Deputy Director General of ANO "Directorate Krasnoyarsk 2019", handed the main symbol of the Universiade Flame to Viktor Koksharov, UrFU Rector. "Yekaterinburg can count on our support, we will be glad to share our knowledge with the Organising Committee of the Games," – noticed Stella Alekseeva. "The Universiade will open a lot of prospects for the city and the whole Sverdlovsk Oblast alike, and it will be a boost for the development of Ural Federal University".

As a reminder, the Yekaterinburg leg of the Winter Universiade 2019 Flame was held on November 17, 2018.  The Flame was carried through the streets of the city by 25 flame bearers, including Ivan Alypov, a bronze Olympic medallist in Cross-Country Skiing, Artem Arefyev, a three-time Paralympic champion in Athletics, Olga Bogdanova, General Manager of Norilsk Nickel Project Office, Natalia Vorobyeva, a key leader of Siberian Wellness, Anna Solomeina, Head of Human Resources of Urals Alumina Refinery of United Company of RUSAL, Ksenia Kyrmanova, Assets Control Manager at Coca-Cola HBC Russia and Maria Kartuz, Head of the TASS Ural Regional Information Centre. The flame bearers started from Ural Federal University and carried the Flame of the Games along Lenin Avenue. The final stage of the Universiade Flame leg in Yekaterinburg was held in Kirov Square, where the City Cauldron was lit by Sergei Chepikov, a two-time Olympic champion, Deputy of State Duma of the Russian Federation, together with Leonid Rapoport, Minister of Physical Culture and Sport of Sverdlovsk Oblast and Viktor Koksharov, UrFU Rector.
