Biography of Pyotr Pimashkov


Pyotr Ivanovich Pimashkov was born July 2, 1948 into a family of teachers. He graduated from Siberian Technological Institute; he then graduated with honours from Krasnoyarsk Academy of Non-Ferrous Metals and Gold. He holds a Doctor of Economics degree and rank of professor. He has published over 40 scientific works. He started his labor activity as a metalworker at the Krasnoyarsk Combine-building Plant, and then worked as a construction engineer and workshop superintendent. He served as the Head of Administration of Sverdlovsky District of Krasnoyarsk for six years, and in December 1996 he was elected Mayor of the city of Krasnoyarsk for the first time. Pyotr Pimashkov is a Member of the World Council of UCLG (United Cities and Local Governments). He is a Member of the Council on local government under the Chairman of the State Duma of Federal Assembly of Russia. He is also the Chairman of the Council of Municipalities of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. Pyotr Pimashkov is a Member of the Supreme Economic Council of the Siberian Federal District. In 2001, he won the “Creator of the Year” competition, which is held by the Russian Government and Gosstroi. By results of the 1st All-Russian contest, organized by the Russian Government in association with the Ministry of regional development of Russia, Mayor of Krasnoyarsk Pyotr Pimashkov was declared “The Best Mayor of Russia” in 2006.

Mayor of Krasnoyarsk Pyotr Pimashkov received the UN-Habitat Scroll of Honor Award for outstanding contributions to improving the urban environment, the quality of citizens’ life, as well as high rates of housing construction.

By the President’s Decree Pyotr Pimashkov has been included into the Russian Delegation to the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe for years 2004-2005, then for years 2006-2007.

For years of his work as a mayor City of Krasnoyarsk has been among the top three most comfortable cities of Russia four times.

By results of the year 2006 Russian Government, President’s Administration and some authoritative public associations acknowledged Krasnoyarsk the most quick-developing Russian city.

In spring of 2008 Krasnoyarsk was awarded with the Diploma of the 1st International contest the “Best CIS city” for the effective social policy.

On March 2, 2008 Pyotr Pimashkov was re-elected Mayor for a 4th term with over 70% of the vote.

Pyotr Pimashkov has been awarded with the “Order of Honour”, “Order of Friendship”, Peter the Great National Public Prize, Public Order of Saint Prince Daniil of Moscow, established by the Russian Orthodox Church,  as well as with the Order “For Merits before Fatherland” of the IV degree.
