Krasnoyarsk through the eyes of children - 2021. Exhibition "Welcome to My City!"

Dear friends!

Welcome to the opening of the exhibition
"Welcome to My City!"

Today you will join a tour around the distant Siberian city - Krasnoyarsk. Founded in 1628 as a military fortress, it covered then a tiny area of 400 square meters. Now it is a large modern metropolis, located on both banks of the great Siberian river Yenisei, one of the few Russian cities with a population over one million. At this exhibition you will see what Krasnoyarsk looks like today, will find out what makes it interesting. The authors of the paintings and drawings are schoolchildren living in Krasnoyarsk. They presented their most favorite places in the city, among which are the Yenisei River embankment, the Paraskeva Pyatnitsa Chapel, Mira Avenue, their schools and other places. All works are filled with love for Krasnoyarsk, and young artists generously share this love with all of us.

I am sure that having visited the exhibition, you will certainly wish to come to Krasnoyarsk and see all its beautiful places with your own eyes. Well, our city definitely has something to surprise you with!

See you in Krasnoyarsk!

Mayor of Krasnoyarsk (2017-2022)

Hello, my name is Christina! I am 15 years old. I'm in the 10th grade. I was born and live in Krasnoyarsk, which is located in Siberia. School takes a lot of time and effort, but still I try not to forget about my hobby - drawing. I like to give life to my ideas, display my emotions on paper, create something with my own hands.

My painting pictures a monument to the Krasnoyarsk artist Andrey Pozdeev. This artist's paintings can be found in many museums around the world. I'm proud that he lived and worked in my city. The monument I painted was erected in 2000 in the historical center of Krasnoyarsk on Mira Avenue.

Hello, my name is Ksyusha! I am 14 years old. I'm in the 7th grade. I love painting and hanging out with my friends. For summer holidays, my family and I often go to Lake Shira. The water in this lake is salty and good for health. It also has a very beautiful nature surrounding.

My painting pictures the Svyato-Pokrovsky Cathedral - an architectural monument of the 17th century, the oldest surviving stone building in Krasnoyarsk. It belongs to the Yenisei school of the Siberian baroque. First, your attention is attracted by the cathedral. It looks pure white, but it actually has a lot of different shades. In the foreground, I have pictured some pigeons, as there are always a lot of them there.

***
Hello, my name is Daria Steinbrecher! I am 13 years old. I am in the 8th grade. I love dancing and watching movies. I have painted Vantovy (cable-stayed) Bridge, as I like to walk it. I have many good memories of this place connected with my family and friends. It is also very beautiful in the evening, with the city lights reflected in the water of the Yenisei. That’s exactly the time of the day I chose for my picture.

Hi, my name is Yaroslava Lashakova! I am 18 years old. I study in Vasily Surikov Children's Art School №1. I love to embroider and to play the piano. I painted the Lenin Museum (current Museum Center Ploshchad Mira), because it is a multifaceted building. On the one hand, it is one of the most unusual buildings, offering original concepts inside and outside, and on the other it is also one of the best Siberian platforms for contemporary art presentation. This building resembles «Stolby» – beautiful stone rocks that can be found near Krasnoyarsk and are one of its symbols. The museum always hosts interesting exhibitions and the building itself is a symbol of contemporary art for me.

Hi, my name is Amalia Wolfe! I am 16 years old and I'm in the 9th grade. Drawing is my main hobby and something I’d like to connect my life in the future with. Besides that, I really like to develop and try something new. In my drawing, I showed a fragment of our city - Mira Avenue. I drew this particular street, because I think it is always different and unusual. Each person sees this street in their own way. For me, this street is a special world, filled with a sea of creativity, beautiful architecture, warm memories and beautiful weekends when it turns 100% pedestrian thanks to the «In the Center of Mira» project.

***

Hello! My name is Diana Samochernova, I am 15 years old. I'm in the 9th grade. Besides drawing, I also love to cook, dance, sing, read detective stories, visit places of culture together with my family, and, of course, learn new things.
I chose this place because I am interested in beautiful architecture. When we look at this street filled with beautiful buildings, we gradually immerse in a cozy and calm summer atmosphere. You get this feeling of something dear and close to your soul. To all my friends abroad I’d like to show the beauty of Russia and to let you feel that even in cold and distant Siberia it can be warm and cozy.

***
Hello! My name is Yulia Yunakova, I am 15 years old. I'm in the 9th grade. Besides drawing, I also love to sing and travel. My family and I often visit the National Park Stolby. It's amazing. I also love the old Krasnoyarsk, which is now gradually disappearing. There are fewer and fewer nooks in the city where you can find wooden houses and feel history and time through them. It's great to explore these quiet streets covered in lacy shadows in summer. To my friends from other countries I would like to show our Russian, Siberian summer, its heat and brightness. And I would very much like to break the stereotypes about cold and inhospitable Siberia, showing the warm side of it.
***
Hi, my name is Dasha Yesyakova! I am 14 years old. I am in the 8th grade. Besides drawing, I also like cooking, sculpting with clay, doing something creative, reading, walking around my city and learning new things. To my friends abroad I’d like to prove that even though Krasnoyarsk is situated in Siberia, it is cozy, warm and atmospheric in its own way.

***
Hello, my name is Alexandra! I am 11 years old. In my free time, I like going out with my friends. We have a lot of different interests and common ideas. Recently, as a present for my birthday, I got a guitar. I am learning some songs to play them for my family and friends. I also have a pet, my cat Stasik. It is white. Recently I also got a younger sister, Zhenya. I call her «Businka» (a small bead) because she is very beautiful, like a pearl.
Now I’d like to tell you about my picture. It shows the Park of Flora and Fauna Roev Ruchey, our local zoo. I decided to paint it because I spent half of my childhood there. The background shows the Ferris wheel, which my parents and I always ride when we go to the Park. The foreground shows a lake, which I like because you can see swans there, graceful and noble birds. Roev Ruchey is a place which constantly attracts you, giving a chance to observe nature and animals.

Hello, my name is Bogdana! I am 12 years old. I have a calm and humble personality, but also cheerful. I love painting and playing the ukulele. Another hobby of mine is cooking various dishes, which I then offer to my family. I also like going for a walk with my best friends. Sometimes I write poetry and stories. I want to write a book in the future. I like to watch various films and anime.
Now let me tell you about my picture. It shows a place called «Stolby» – a national park, against the sunset. Thanks to the wonderful sunset, beautiful shades of purple, red and green are imprinted on the mountains and trees. The trees in the background are a mixture of green, brown and blue colors. The mountains are dark blue. Sunset shimmers with all the variety of colors. In the foreground of the picture there is a huge rock, next to which there are many more smaller rocks, among which you can see the snow that has not yet melted. A lot of people come here, as the view of this natural beauty is absolutely breathtaking.

***
Hello, my name is Polina! I am 12 years old. I'm in the 6th grade. I really like painting. I also have other hobbies. One of them is embroidery. I learned to embroider from my mother. I take samples for my embroidery from the Internet, and then try to repeat them. Sometimes I embroider and make small brooches for bags, briefcases or clothes. I devote all my free time to this hobby.
In my picture, I painted my favorite place in Krasnoyarsk. This is the Communal Bridge and the left bank embankment of the Yenisei River. Our embankment has recently changed a lot. It is very clean and beautiful. There are many trees, grass, flowers, art installations there. I often go there with my friends to walk and sit on the grass when it's sunny outside. The embankment provides a beautiful view of the Yenisei, with boats on it, and in the background you can see the outlines of the right bank part of Krasnoyarsk.

My name is Milana Ovsyankina. I live in Krasnoyarsk and study at School № 65. Studying is important to me, I take a responsible approach to it and to the assignments that teachers give me. But most of all I love painting. I have been painting since childhood constantly learning and improving my skills. The vastness of the city, the faces of people on the streets and simple little things inspire me. I always try to do everything in the best possible way, overcome difficulties and strive for the best results, both in painting and in my everyday life. I love walking and looking at the cityscapes. It is very valuable for me to be able to enjoy these moments. I have painted the Krasnoyarsk Museum of Local Lore, as I can call it my favorite place in the city. I go there every year, because I enjoy exploring ancient household items. In the museum, you can literally touch the history. It is very quiet and peaceful in the museum, I feel comfortable there. In my picture I showed the entrance to “Tortuga” - a park of culture and recreation in Sayanogorsk (a town in the nearby Republic of Khakassia). We often go there with my parents to enjoy wonderful views of nature, breathe clean air on the banks of the Yenisei River. In the forest, that surrounds the Tortuga Park, there are many interesting plants.

Krasnoyarsk “Big Ben” is the embodiment of the city's monumentality and beauty. Every time I pass it, I admire its significance, the way it complements the city. After all, not every city has a clock tower of such a scale. Every half hour the clock strikes and plays a melody. And every evening a real miracle begins - the clock tower gets illuminated and illuminates the night sky with spotlights!

***

Not far from the Pedagogical University there is a monument to the artist Andrei Pozdeev, who was born in Krasnoyarsk and also worked here. Two other works depict the Pokrovskiy Cathedral dating back to the 18th century and the Church of Vera, Nadezda, Lyubov (Faith, Hope, Love) and their mother Sophia. Near the building of the Cathedral you can see a monument to the great Siberian artist Vasily Surikov. I study at the art school named after him. The Orthodox Church is located on the territory of the Krasnoyarsk Regional Clinical Hospital. The bright image of the church and its interior decoration give hope, consolation and faith in successful healing.
I would greatly like to hear from my foreign friends about their homeland painters and the pictures they like best.

Hello, my name is Zhenya Lapteva! I am 16 years old. I’m in my 10th grade at a general school and I have graduated from the Art School named after Vasily Surikov, where I studied for 5 years. After graduating from the art school, I signed up for preparatory courses at the Art College, also named after Surikov. Hopefully I will get a scholarship.
I drew these places because they are very memorable. Every day, people pass these places going on their usual business (going to work, going shopping, going to drink coffee). My drawings show the world through my eyes, through my inspiration. It might seem that these are ordinary places, but this is totally different for me.
Well, enough about me, how about you? What does the word “art” mean to you? Is it important in your life? I hope, one day we will meet and discuss it. See you soon!

It is an architectural monument and is protected by law. The building is very beautiful. Its facade is richly decorated with stucco molding. It was built in 1910-1922 according to the project of the provincial architect Vladimir Sokolovsky and the sculptor Alexander Popov. On the first floor there was a pastry shop, the second floor was residential. A few years after the revolution, this building was given to the musicians. Once, this mansion was one of the best houses in the city. In 1894 the Governor of the Yenisei Province lived there.

Hello everyone! My name is Yaroslav. I live in Russia in a very beautiful city called Krasnoyarsk. I have a very busy life. I go to art school, music school and break dance! I love reading, composing songs, collecting Lego, crafting from wood, riding a bicycle, rollerblading, skateboarding, ice skating, sledding, but most of all I love a delicious food))). That's why I also love cooking. I have an elder brother and an elder sister, we all go in for break dance :) I love animals, we have a cat Tosya. She is very smart, can follow different commands: "sit", "give a paw", "give another paw", "voice", but her favorite command is "yum-yum" (go eat!).
Now I'll tell you about my city. We have a very green city. The entire city is surrounded by mountains covered with dense forests (wild animals live in the forests: brown bears, wolves, foxes, hares, lynxes, snakes, squirrels, woodpeckers, owls and many others). The highest mountain is the extinct volcano "Kara-Dag", which the local people call "Black Sopka". This volcano can be seen from all points of the city. When all the snow has already melted in the city, it still lies on the volcano. In the middle of our city, the powerful Yenisei River flows, dividing the city into 2 banks: left and right. Kara-Dag is located on the right bank. We aslso have islands in the middle of the Yenisei. The largest is called Tatyshev Island, where we go to relax and play sports. There are many sports and playgrounds there, in winter you can ski and ice skate, play hockey, in summer it's open for rollerblading, bicycles, skateboards, wakeboards, scooters and summer skiing. You can also use boats, fly kites, play table tennis, football, frisbee. There is even a helipad on this island. But the main feature is the presence of a large number of gophers and ducks. You can even see foxes in distant parts of the island. People constantly feed the gophers, and the gophers completely lost their fear of man. They fearlessly approach people and beg for food, sometimes even too brazenly, climbing into bags and pockets! But we must remember that these are still wild animals and be careful with them!
I have drawn everything that I told you about: a fragment of Tatyshev Island, a bay of the Yenisei River, a rescue boat, our mountains, and our "Fujiyama", which can be seen from all points of the city!
